TPC Sawgrass has 2 golf courses on-site. The Stadium Course is the one that hosts the “The Players” championship on the PGA Tour. The second course is the “Dye’s Valley Course”. We only had time to play one course, so we played the Stadium Course.
I’ve played a lot of courses that host some professional tournaments, including a couple of other TPC golf courses. The Stadium course was by far the best of them. There are fun, challenging holes and of course the infamous number 17 par 3.
Apparently, when you check-in, they will offer you the opportunity to pay for a caddy for your twosome. I didn’t realize this, and they didn’t ask. We found out when we got to the starter. At this point, we decided to go without. The twosome we were playing with did pay for a caddy.
The caddy isn’t like what you see on TV or if you’ve played internationally and got a caddy in the past. Basically, he will tell you where to hit it, such as the left or right side of the fairway. He will then take off and head for the middle of the fairway, while we’re all hitting. The caddy will keep track of where everyone’s ball goes and he will give you distances and any advice as to where or where not to hit the ball. He will also read the green for you if you want. I don’t know how much it costs, but I would recommend it.
While you will get a golf cart, it’s cart path only. The caddy will know your distance by the time you drive to your ball and will tell you so that you don’t have to carry 3 or 4 golf clubs with you.
By the way, I made par on number 17 from the pro tees.
The Marriott Resort
This is a really nice Marriott Golf Resort. The rooms were really nice and the lobby area is open. Unfortunately, due to the Covid-19 virus pandemic, only the restaurant at the bar – Alice and Pete’s Pub, was open.
There was also a large pool area which would be great for the kids, but due to the virus, we did not visit the pool.
Guests staying in the hotel get a nice discount for the TPC golf courses. We’ll go back when we have time to play both courses.
